Making Tracks
Just how long is too long? When it comes to powering through deep mountain powder, just how much track can you run on a snowmobile?
That's always the 100 dollar question for sled designers. Track length has to be balanced with the ability to steer the snowmobile with the power to turn the track. And over the years, as technology improved in engine performance and suspension, the length of snowmobile tracks extended.
Ted George, friend in Jackson, WY, has toyed with this concept for several years. For the past two winters he has ridded his Polaris Pro RMK 800 with his own designed 189-inch track. And he has been very satisfied with the results.
This season he's toying with a 201-inch track. He's excited to test it. We're excited to see what he finds. It's always refreshing to see the innovations that come from the unique individuals within the snowmobile industry.
Just how long is too long? We're not sure we've gotten to that point yet.

Over-Snow Grooming Comments
The Over-Snow Trail Grooming Environmental Assessment on the Payette National Forest is being released for public comment this week. The document is available for comment for the next 30 days and analyzes the ongoing winter over-snow grooming program specific to groomed routes on the PNF in cooperation with Valley County and the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR).
The agreement supports and maintains trail grooming in Valley, Adams and Idaho Counties. The agreement has been authorized on the Payette since 1995. Valley County is the lead county behind this program and assumes the responsibility for completing the grooming work under the direction of the Cost Share Agreement and annual operating plan. The Cost Agreement is for a 5-year period.

Ski-Doo Unleashes Mx Zx 600RS
BRP has pushed the snowmobile racing envelope further with the introduction of the 2013 Ski-Doo MX Zx 600RS model. The sled features revised front suspension geometry with better handling in bumps and refined engine components to maximize power output in all conditions.
The Ski-Doo racing program saw huge success last year claiming the ISOC Snocross series championship, Eagle River World Championship in snocross, world famous Iron Dog cross country event and the gruelling Cains Quest race. That success was due mostly to the Ski-Doo MX Zx 600RS model using the REV-X chassis—the basis for all Ski-Doo trail snowmobiles.
